BMW decided to introduce two more versions for the new BMW X3 F25, two versions which can be also ordered together with the earlier revealed M Sport package. We talk about a petrol and a diesel engine, more exactly the xDrive28i and xDrive30d versions.
The entry level model is offered with diesel power, summoning the impressive 2.0-litre N47 D20 four-cylinder variable geometry turbo diesel to provide propulsion. Outputs are identical to the F10 520d, producing 184hp @ 4,000rpm and a max torque of 380Nm @ 1,750 – 2,750rpm for the xDrive20d variant. BMW claims a century sprint of 8.5 seconds en route to a 210kph v-max.
Alternatively, petrol power can be supplied with the aid of twin-scroll turbocharging and direct-injection by the 2,979cc N55 B30 engine that currently powers the 535i. Powering the xDrive35i, the N55 is rated to produce 306hp @ 5,800rpm and 400Nm @ 1,300rpm. A slightly different set of figures are quoted for the US market however, being 300hp @ 5,800rpm and 300 lb-ft (406Nm ) @ 1,200 – 5,00orpm.
